New Delhi: Air Deccan set to relaunch operations with tickets starting at Re 1

New Delhi, Dec 14 (Agencies): Low cost airline Air Deccan is all set to start operations under the regional connectivity scheme (RCS), also known as UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik), from December 22, as per media reports.

The first flight of the airline will be on the Mumbai-Nashik route.

Although Air Deccan airfares will start at Rs 1,400 for the Mumbai-Nashik flight, some lucky passengers will be able to get tickets for just Re 1.

The RCS, also known as UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) aims at making flying affordable to the masses with fares capped at Rs 2,500 km per hour of flight, and also improving air- connectivity to tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

Five airlines were awarded 128 routes during the first round of bidding for the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) in March. The carriers were given six months to start operations and the deadline expired on September 30.

Air Odisha (50 routes) and Air Deccan (34 routes) had bagged the maximum number of routes under the scheme. Air Deccan had bagged 34 routes routes under the scheme.

The other three airlines -- Alliance Air, SpiceJet and Trujet -- have already started their RCS operations. However, of the total 128 routes, only 15 have been operationalised.

The airlines that win rights to operate RCS flights are required to offer half of their seating capacity at discounted rates in return for which they get government subsidy.

This will be the second innings of the airline. Founded by GR Gopinath in 2003, Air Deccan merged with Vijay Mallya owned Kingfisher Airlines in 2008. However it was grounded in 2012 under financial stress.

Air Deccan will begin operations in four bases –Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Shillong.

Lets congratulate the relaunch of a closed project, which will contribute to Improve employment, help economy. Wish all closed industries slowly start. After demonetization we need a re vital of all sectors which are affected. Else FRDI can ruin the common man worst than Demonetization and GST.

Congratulations and best wishes to Capt Gopinath and team for the second innings.
Capt Gopi with his low cost airline concept made flying possible for so many more of us in India. It was post Air deccan that even the full fledged carriers started offering competitive rates.

Rs 1 ticket only for promotion of the airline . What about safety of the passengers? Due to cheapest air tickets safety should not be compromised

Sorry to say no government wants to develop Mangalore airport. With direct flights from abroad. If Kannur airport comes up. Then chances of direct flights to Mangalore will decline 90% because Kerala government will try to connect direct flights to Kannur airport. Which will make decline of passengers from Kerala border population and will make airlines operation stop due to less passengers.
This is the time to launch direct flights or else you can’t at all.

Mangalore Airport comes under Premium category with high cost airfares across all routes allocated. For example, even with 8 flights to Bangalore daily, the cost per ticket is nothing less than INR 4000+ every day, every time.

Even Mumbai rates from Mangalore are high, airlines are fleecing passengers. And less said about the Gulf rates. Even flights operated by Air India Express are costly when compared to tickets from Trivandrum or Kochi. Nobody's taking action. All are in the same game.
