Mangaluru, Dec 12: Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament (MP) Nalin Kumar Kateel held a press meet on Tuesday, December 12 and criticised the state government for its failure to contain communal harmony in the state. He also came down heavily on district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai for holding the ‘Walk for harmony’ without containing drug mafia in the district.
“The murders of Hindus are increasing in the state with Paresh Mesta’s murder being a recent addition. Despite several warnings from BJP and Hindu organisations, government has failed to control the killings of Hindus. The government is hiding something in Paresh Mesta murder. They delayed the post-mortem. The officials are not giving proper information about the death. BJP condemns the murder and demands NIA probe. We are planning a protest in Honnavar Next week,” he said.
Walk for harmony
“Keeping in mind the upcoming state elections, Ramanath Rai is walking with the slogan of harmony. It is only to get votes from a particular community. He has taken CPI (M) along with him which is doing the politics of murders and threats. Rai is planning to bring CPI (M) Kerala model politics in the district,” he added.
“If he wants harmony, why should he hold walk for harmony only in Bantwal? Is he in-charge minister of only Bantwal? If not he should walk from Mangaluru to Sampaje. By holding walk in Bantwal, he is admitting that he cannot control his own constituency. The harmony of Bantwal has been completely destroyed. He is projecting his and his government’s failures,” he alleged.
“Why he is silent on the murders of Ashraf, Jaleel, Sharath and others? Why he is not instructing the police and officials to conduct sincere probe in these murders? Drug mafia is strengthening roots in villages also. What steps have been taken by in- charge minister to control this? He should hold review meetings with officials to control the drug mafia instead of holding walk for harmony. If he controls drugs, automatically harmony will come.” he said.
“Instead of walk for harmony, he should concentrate on administration. Otherwise it is better for him go on pilgrimage,” he concluded.
Sanjeev Matandur, BJP district president, Brijesh Chowta, Kishore Rai, Harish Poonja , Harikrishna Bantwal were present in the press meet.
