Udupi, Dec 6: Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Wednesday December 6 visited Sri Krishna Math here and sought blessings from Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math.
Commenting on the resolution passed at the recently held Dharma Sansad to build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, he said, "There are different opinions in different religions. As far as Ram Mandir is concerned, we are hoping for the best results from the Supreme Court. What we wish is the growth of the nation and matter to be settled peacefully. We are working in that direction.
"People are supporting me wherever I go and meet people with regard to Ram Mandir. Muslim leaders have also expressed positive response towards the settlement of this issue.
"RSS is an independent outfit that can express its own opinion. Everyone wants a cordial, peaceful and harmonious environment during the course of Ram Temple construction. We have got huge response from both the communities. People want this matter to be solved peacefully without any conflict," he added.
Pejawar Swamiji said, "I cannot talk about the conversation that transpired between us. I would not say that the Dharma Sansad opposed Ravi Shankar Guruji for mediating in Ram Mandir dispute. We have spoken about various issues which were discussed at the Dharma Sansad.
"Babri mosque in Ayodhya was razed down on December 6, 1992 by a mob of Hindu activists who claimed that the site of the mosque was Lord Rama's birthplace. A crowd started to demolish the mosque when I rushed towards them to prevent the act of people. But a few leaders held me back due to security reasons. The demolition went on without any obstruction and I was a mute witness to that moment. I was stunned witnessing the incident right in front of my eyes. I never provoked anyone to do that. Some people dragged me into this issue. On that day, I shouted into a mike to stop the demolition, but no one bothered to listen to my words. I believe in doing good works and not promoting any kind of violence," the Swamiji said.
Commenting on Dwarakanath’s questions about the existence of Lord Rama, Swamiji said, "He should not spoil the faith of people on Lord Rama. How can he comment about another's religion? It was uncalled for."
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar conversed with Pejawar Swamiji on Dharma Sansad for more than half an hour. He also spent his time at Sri Krisha Temple and offered his prayers.
