Mangaluru, Dec 4: Lawrence Nite held at Don Bosco Hall in city on Sunday, December 3, was a big hit with music enthusiasts enjoying every moment of it.
It was a first musical nite for Lawrence Baptist, a well known singer and musician for more than 3 decades. His dream of staging a musical event would not materialize for so many years in spite of many attempts. Now with the help of music lovers and well-wishers he has made it.
Before the show started a brief stage programme was held. Rector of Jeppu Seminary Fr Joseph Martis, parish priest of Jeppu Church Fr Nelson D’Almeida, renowned singer ‘Konkan Maina’ Meena Rebimbus, writer Edi Netto, dramatist ‘Comedy King’ Francis Fernandes Cascia and Lawrence Baptist with wife graced the stage.
Francis Fernandes Cascia was felicitated by the organizers. He remembered his days he spent in Mangaluru during and before he first went to the stage at Don Bosco 55 years back and wished well for Lawrence.
Fr Nelson D’Almeida briefed about the achievements of Jeppu parishioners from the days of Jesuits. He said writers, singers, musicians and all types of artistes can be found in Jeppu parish though it is a comparatively small congregation of Catholics in city.
‘Maria Mojya Bhangara’ CD was released by Meena Rebimbus during the event. The CD composed by Lawrence Baptist has 12 songs and is available at regular shops. The CD was recorded at Daijiworld Studio.
Felix Moras welcomed and compered the stage programme. Clita Noronha proposed vote of thanks.
Lawrence began the musical nite with a prayer song after the stage programme. Every song sung after that had melody and music with clarity of words. Lawrence had composed all the songs and also tuned them. Pappan-Joswin provided the music.
Ivan Sequeira, Claude D’Souza, Babitha Pinto, Zeena Pereira, Ashwin D’Costa, Shalom Pinto, Ashel D’Souza, Ashwija Mendonca, Kajal Moras sang in the musical nite with Lawrence.
The songs included themes from smart city to Yoga, love to rock and roll. The most popular was ‘Shradhanjali Tuka’ sung by Lawrence in tribute to his son Kevin Baptist who died young in 2013. It was not easy song for a father to sing on stage by holding the tears. Lawrence excelled in it the way Eric Clapton did with ‘Tears in heaven’. The song sent the crowd into tears.
Kids from Adyar Padav and Comedy Circle Bondel entertained the spectators with their dance numbers and comedy skits respectively.
Vincent Mendonca compered the musical nite.
