Doha, Nov 24: The 62nd Karnataka Rajyothsava Day (state formation day) was celebrated by Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) recently in Delhi Public School Auditorium with pomp and gaiety.
The function took off with Karnataka state’s song ‘Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Tanujaate’ rendered by visiting popular trio singers Jogi Sunitha, H S Sreenivasamurthy and Nakul Abhyankar followed by many melodies of yesteryears and latest hit numbers. Famous spoof poet H Dundiraj split the crowd into laughter’s with his unabated punch and poems.
A traditional welcome was accorded to the visiting guests and artistes from the entrance to the stage with Indian musical instruments played by the local ATS company artistes. The event then witnessed the lighting of the lamp followed by a floral tribute to the Kannada Flag pole. KSQ lady members rendered a welcome song mentored by local musician Ashwin P Kumar. Children from Kannada weekly classes conducted by KSQ rendered two Kannada children songs with full orchestra team led by Yellur Srinivasa Rao. The kids then stole the show appearing as legends from Karnataka which included freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna, Nada Prabhu Kempegowda, the architect of Bengaluru, renowned Kannada poet, D V Gundappa, the matinee idol Dr Rajkumar, film actress Ramya and doyen of kannada theater B Jayashree. The Kannada teaching faculty Roopa Pramod, Sudha Prabhakar and K Prabhakar were awarded with mementos. The local Karnataka based associations Tulukoota Qatar presented a skit highlighting the need of unity among the community with a big message to live together and Mangalore Cricket Association enacted a mime show on the evils of high usage of mobile phones. KSQ team’s hilarious skit on adults’ education in rural areas directed by Vijaya was also well received which showcased the importance of learning through education to lead a proper life.
In the public function held subsequently, H K Madhu, KSQ president welcomed the gathering. KSQ honoured noted play and cine artiste, Padmashree award winner B Jayashree with Qatar Kannada Samman Award for the year 2017 for her contribution in the field of theatre, dramas, direction, singing and acting. KSQ also felicitated poet H Dundiraj, visiting sandalwood hero Vijaya Raghavendra and heroine Shraddha Srinath. Vijay Raghavendra was conferred with Raja Manikya title. Srigandha, the annual souvenir was released during the event. Adithri, a champion of many national and international tournaments in the sports of fencing was also honoured. Presiding over the function, ICC President Milan Arun lauded the efforts of KSQ in hosting such events to uphold the legacy, culture and heritage.
B Jayashree who is famous for her shrill voice singing of drama songs enthralled the audience to receive a standing ovation who in turn prostrated to the audience in a goodwill gesture which again attracted a huge applause from the crowd. The auditorium went into berserk with audience dancing to the ‘Huttidare Kannada Nadalli Huttabeku’ song along with B Jayashree, Vijay Raghavendra , H Dundiraj and Shraddha Srinath and KSQ members on the stage.
Dr Dore and Sushma Sandesh anchored the programme assisted by Tufail Matheen and Mysore Manjunath. KSQ general secretary Sandesh Anand presented the annual report while vice-president Subramanya Hebbagilu proposed the vote of thanks.
