New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS): A newly-formed Village Development Board will replace the Rural Development Board to ensure development of both urban and rural villages in the city, a minister said on Monday
Rural Development Minister Gopal Rai said the decision was approved in a Cabinet meeting on Monday, adding the Board had been allotted Rs 600 crore.
The minister said the move was aimed at developing villages in urban areas also, as the Rural Development Board did not have the mandate to conduct development works in urban villages.
Rai will be the chairman of the board and all MLAs and MPs will be its members.
Each village will have a Village Development Committee, made of villagers, and a 16-member state-level committee will also be formed, the minister said.
