Mumbai, Nov 13: Mumbai’s towing incident which went viral on Saturday has a new twist. A new video shows that the baby was moved inside the car later, which contradicts the version of the mother.
The Mumbai police was slammed for being insensitive after a video went viral of a car being towed, while a woman was breastfeeding.
The woman identified as Jyoti Male said that she was not even asked to alight from the vehicle and traffic constable Shashank Rane started towing the car while she was breastfeeding, turning a deaf ear to her pleas.
However, a new video of the incident that surfaced on Sunday, narrates a different tale. This video shows that the infant was in the hands of a family member and was moved inside the car after the woman was warned that the car will be towed. The video clearly indicates that the parent could have averted the situation of having the infant in the vehicle while it was towed, but she chose otherwise.
National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma who had earlier said that strict action should be taken against the policeman, said that if it is proven that the mother has acted irresponsibly, a case should be booked against her as well.
“Our first concern is the safety of the child. I have read that the mother kept sitting inside the moving car. If the case proves that the mother has been irresponsible on her part, then a case should be booked against her as well,” she told media.
Reacting to the new twist, the mother said that the video from the camera on top of the towing crane should be watched from beginning to the end to get the actual picture.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too had condemned the Mumbai police for being insensitive and has said that the cop is suspended.
