Saudi suspends oil supply to Bahrain after oil pipe explosion

Riyadh, Nov 12 (IANS): Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday the suspension of oil supply to Bahrain after an oil pipe exploded in Bahrain, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Saudi fully supports Bahrain's energy sector in tackling such hostile attacks and is confident about Bahrain's capability of handling the situation, said a statement by Saudi's Energy Ministry.

The ministry also announced stricter security measures at all its oil sites.

Meanwhile, Saudi's National Oil Company Saudi Aramco confirmed that the suspension of oil supply to Bahrain would be effective until the end of the investigation.

An oil pipe exploded in Buri village in Bahrain on Friday night.

Bahrain's Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid Al Khalifa confirmed on Saturday that it was an act of vandalism and a serious terrorist crime meant to jeopardise the nation's interests and people's safety.

He blamed Iran while highlighting that the recent acts of terror in Bahrain were carried out through direct communication with, and orders from, Iran.

It is sad to note that a long established pipeline link between the Saudi Kingdom and the neighborly State of Bahrain for more than seventy years has become the victim for vandalism and economic destruction. The well established and one of the oldest Refineries of Bahrain has sadly come to a standstill bringing economic as well as political instability between two nations that were linked with a road bridge more than forty years ago.

The Saudi-Bahrain relations were as solid as a rock from the time of King Abudulaziz and Shaikh Sulman Alkhalifa need be restored as fast as possible so that the ruptured pipelines may be repaired and the flow of oil will commence again bringing economic and political stability to both the exemplary nations.

May God help us all in pursuit of our daily peace and happiness.
