Trombay, Nov 10 (The Indian Express): The police here on Thursday registered an FIR against a doctor for allegedly sharing a post that ascribed communal remarks to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik. The police have registered an FIR on charges of spreading communal hatred and causing defamation against Dr Satish Tidke and are taking help from the cyber police to get details about the post. No arrests have been made in the matter till now.

An officer said Sanjay Kamble, an NCP worker, approached the Trombay police late Wednesday night with a compliant that Tidke had shared a post on Facebook that mentioned Malik had said derogatory things about some leaders and religions. When the post came to the notice of some NCP workers, they informed Malik who then asked them to inform the local police.

Tidke earlier operated out of Trombay and recently moved to Turbhe, said an official.

Senior inspector S Gaonkar said, “We have registered an offence under sections 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code. We are taking help from the cyber police station to get details on the post.”

Speaking to The Indian Express, Malik said, “It is true that someone was spreading lies about me on Facebook and an FIR has been registered against Satish Tidke. He is a member of a national party and hence trying to defame me. The post was originally put up by the youth wing of the national party, which was in turn shared by Tidke.”
