Mumbai, Jun 25: A 15-member delegation led by the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal and member of parliament, Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal and deputy speaker of Lok Sabha, Sardar Charanjit Singh Atwal, met the Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan, on Wednesday, June 25.

Badal told the Governor that the brutal killing of Barkarar Singh, a private body guard at Mulund in the city, had hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. He urged the Governor to prosecute the guilty and accord members of the community adequate protection.

The delegation informed the Governor Jamir that their agitation following the killing was an emotional protest and hence, cases against those detained by the police be withdrawn. They also requested that adequate compensation be given to the family of the deceased and a job provided to his next of kin. The Governor assured them that he would ask the government to expedite the investigation into the matter.
