Ajman, Nov 6: Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private university in the region, recebtly celebrated UAE Flag Day with pomp and splendor.
The UAE flag was raised on the Gulf Medical University (GMU) campus at Al Jurf, here amidst a celebratory atmosphere, with the academic leadership, administrators, faculty and students attending the ceremony.
The GMU campus was resplendent with hues of green, black, red and white, representing the UAE flag. The celebrations began with the UAE National Anthem, followed by the hoisting of the UAE’s flag on the campus and reciting the pledge of allegiance to the nation and its wise leadership. A cake-cutting ceremony led by the chief guest Prof Hossam Hamdy, chancellor of GMU was part of the celebrations. Students also released balloons representing the colors of the UAE flag.
Prof Hossam Hamdy expressed the university’s delight in celebrating the joyous annual occasion, to instill loyalty and commitment to the UAE government’s quest for a socio-economic growth, the preservation of local culture and environmental sustainability in line with the vision and guidance of the country’s visionary leadership.
“By hoisting the UAE flag today, the staff and students of GMU express our pride in being part of this great country. As a community of students from 80 nationalities and faculty/staff from over 25 nations, we also take this opportunity to express our appreciation of the UAE’s role as a frontrunner in embracing various cultures and as a pioneer of peaceful coexistence and tolerance,” he said.
Reiterating their loyalty and commitment to the UAE government’s vision, the attendees from different cultures used the occasion to reaffirm the love for UAE; their ‘home away from home’.
