Doha, Nov 2: Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in association with the Indian Embassy here, observed National Unity Day on October 31 at ICC Ashoka hall.
The annual commemoration, known as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 and is held annually on the birthday of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel on October 31 every year.
The 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was celebrated in a befitting manner to recognize his contribution to the freedom struggle and to the founding of independent and united India.
To commemorate this event, ICC organized an audience quiz and also presented a short documentary film on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Around 350 people attended the programme, including children from various Indian schools and Ideal Indian School. Special prizes were given away in the audience quiz which saw enthusiastic participation.
ICC president Milan Arun welcomed the gathering. Chief guest for the event was Hemanth Kumar Diwvedi, first Secretary (Information and Education) Embassy of India, Qatar. The audience quiz was conducted by Anjan Ganguly, head of in-house activities and the vote of thanks was rendered by K S Prasad, head of membership and consular services.
The programme was coordinated by joint secretary Sriraja Vijayan.
