The Hague, Sep 18 (IANS): Romain Wattel claimed his maiden victory on the European Tour by winning the KLM Open golf tournament here.
The 26-year-old Frenchman survived a late scare on the golf course when he missed the green in the final match round on Sunday but managed to come out on 69 strokes and finish on a total of 269, 15 under par, reports Xinhua news agency.
The win was remarkable because the 24th place was his best previous result this season.
Kiradech Aphibarnrat from Thailand, who led after three rounds, had a bad last round of 73 strokes and dropped to the joint 9th place at -12.
Canadian Austin Connelly ended second after a final round of 66 and a total of 270 (-14).
Title holder and local Dutch favourite Joost Luiten had a disappointing tournament. The winner of 2013 and 2016 did not make the cut and went home after two rounds.
