Chennai, Sep 13 (IANS): Actor Vishal, who is gearing up for the release of his Tamil crime thriller "Thupparivaalan", says he has political ambitions and would take the plunge when the need arises. However, he says he doesn't see it as an alternative career option.
"There's nothing wrong about being involved in politics. If you want change, you have to lead it from front to make it happen. People from several parties have approached me in the past but I will only join politics if the need arises," Vishal told IANS.
"I don't see politics as a secret ambition or as an alternative career option. If the current crop of politicians exercise their duties responsibly, I don't think actors like me would even be asked if we are interested in politics or not," he added.
On the career front, Vishal's "Thupparivaalan", in which he plays a detective a la Sherlock Holmes, is slated to hit the screens on Friday.
The film marks his first time collaboration with director Mysskin, known for his dark and highly emotional films.
Talking about "Thupparivaalan", Vishal said excitedly: "It will be a first-of-its-kind experience for audiences. This film will popularise detective stories in Tamil filmdom. I'm glad this project came my way at the right time. I was fortunate enough to produce it as well."
Admitting that the film is inspired by Conan Doyle's stories featuring Sherlock Holmes, he said audiences will nevertheless love the movie.
"People might even call it a rip-off of Sherlock Holmes, but I'm sure they'll love the content. The way the cases are solved in the film will leave audiences at the edge of their seats. It will be a very different experience for them. This is also my first film sans any songs," he added.
On teaming up with Mysskin, usually referred to as a task master, Vishal said: "I've heard so many stories about Mysskin from different people. Some even called him psychotic and very unfriendly, but I set aside all the preconceived notions when I worked with him and the experience was very good."
The film also stars Prasanna, Anu Emmanuel, Andrea Jeremiah and Vinay Rai.
