Margao, May 6: Fatorda-Margao Citizens Welfare Committee (FMCWF) has demanded that government should take stringent action on those private school/institutions, who ask donation for admission.

Some schools have commenced the admission process, by taking huge donations on the pretext of construction of new building, providing better facilities to students. Following these developments FMCWF on Monday gheraoed B G Naik, deputy director of divisional education department, at Margao and placed their demand by submitting a memorandum.

State government in an order issued on January 25, 2008 had said that institutions should not ask for donation at the time of students' admissions. But some of the managements seem to have not given heed to this and are continuing with the malpractice of demanding donations, said FMCWF members.

FMCWF has submitted names of some schools which are still accepting donations.  The Association has urged the government to take action against these schools.

Deputy Director has assured FMCWF that he will collect the information of admission process of schools and will take suitable action on those found guilty.

It is being said that some schools ask donation of Rs 20,000 to 50,000 for admission in V to X standard.

FMCWF said that it is grave concern that poor and middle class student cannot afford huge donations and hence are deprived of their basic right of education.
