Yadgir, Jul 19: In an incident which was revealed with delay, a police constable from the town allegedly killed his wife by poisoning her. His grouse against his wife, Hanamanthi (26), was that she had not so far conceived his offspring.
It has come to light that Mahendra, a police constable attached to the town police station here, mixed poison with food and gave it to his wife at around midnight on Sunday July 16.
Mahendra had married Hanamanthi, who belonged to Kallanakera village in this taluk, eight years ago. He used to harass his wife constantly for not being able to conceive. Although he often proposed to marry a second time, his wife was not agreeable to this proposal. This had angered Mahendra, it is said.
Hanamanthi fell seriously ill after having been poisoned. She was rushed to Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences at Raichur but she breathed her last on Monday. Father of the lady, Erappa, has filed a complaint in the town police station here, alleging that Mahendra had fed poison to his daughter. The police, who have registered the case, have taken Mahendra into custody for questioning.
