Kundapur, Jul 18: After the steering wheel of a private service bus suddenly came off, the driver lost control over the vehicle as a result of which the bus moved erratically. The bus then crushed three two-wheelers parked nearby before coming to a stop after hitting a coconut tree. Luckily there was no loss of life or serious injury. The incident happened at around 12.15 pm on Monday July 17.
The service bus in question was moving towards the town from Korgi village. After the steering end slipped, the bus mowed down a bicycle, a TVS XL motor bike, a TVS Apache and Yamaha Libero vehicles parked opposite Vinaya Bar, Tekkatte. The front portion of the bus was damaged, and three passengers in the bus suffered minor injuries.
Normally this rural road has dense traffic as many students as well as vehicles use this narrow road. The result would have been fatal if the accident had happened on the narrow road during heavy traffic. Driver of the bus, identified as Krishna, failed to notice that the steering end had slipped. An eyewitness, Seetharam Kulal Gulladi, said that he alerted three persons who were standing on the path of the bus and having a chat, after noticing that the bus was out of control, who thereafter scampered away and saved themselves.
Kota station house officer, Rajagopal, visited the spot.
