Mangaluru: ‘GST Outreach program’ held in MRPL

Mangaluru, Jul 17: A ‘GST Outreach programme’ was organized in MRPL on Monday July 17 to sensitize the stake holders about the landmark tax reform introduced by the government of India.  

Dr M Subramanyam, IRS, Commissioner of Central Excise & Central Tax (GST), Mangaluru and H G Pavitra KCTS, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Admn.) & State GST were the chief guests on the occasion.  H Kumar, managing director, MRPL presided over the programme.

Shankar S, IRS, Assistant Commissioner Central Excise & Central Tax (GST), Shreyas K M  IRS, Assistant Commissioner Service Tax & Central Tax (GST), Hemaji Naik KCTS, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement) & State GST, Shambhu Bhat, KCTS, Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement.) & State GST also participated in the programme.

AK Sahoo, director finance, MRPL and Rajeev Kushvah, CVO, MRPL were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

The stakeholders, vendors, contractors and service providers of MRPL in good numbers took part in the programme.

HG Pavitra spoke on the occasion and gave the background of introduction of GST in the country and said that GST will avoid the cascading effect of taxes on goods and services. Dr M Subramanyam said, “GST has taken 17 years in the making. He said that GST would result in simplification of taxation system and help in ease of doing business. This is a landmark legislation of tax reforms. This will also benefit our exports and make our economy attractive for foreign investors.” 

Speaking on the occasion, H Kumar, MD MRPL said, “The introduction of GST would benefit the economy.” 

He cited the example of abolition of check posts at the state borders which enables the free movement of goods which would result in increase in demand for HSD. He also said that he would look forward for the inclusion of crude, petrol & diesel under GST which are at present kept out of the purview of GST. 

A question and answer session followed in which various queries of the stakeholders and vendors were clarified by the tax authorities.
