Udupi: Day-long event for rural sports held in Ambagilu

Udupi, Jul 17: 'Aatid Kesard Onji Dina', a day-long rural sport event in a slush field, was organised by Shree Devi Yuvaka Mandala, Ambagilu on Sunday, July 16.

Yashpal Suvarna, president of undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Fisheries Federation, inaugurated the function. Appreciating the work of Yuvaka Mandala in organising the event, he said, " The youth should take part in these types of events unitedly."

Addressing the gathering, district in-charge minister and minister of sports and youth affairs, Pramod Madhwaraj, said, “The government, through the department of youth and sports will provide Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 to those who organise traditional games for the public. Minister Pramod also highlighted the importance of agricultural field and requested the youth to take part in agricultural activities. He also promised help in building an open stage for the Kakkunje Yuvaka Mandala.

A  grand procession was taken from Shree Katte Mahadevi temple to the field. Beautifully decorated buffallos took the front place in the procession. Guests arrived in procession after offering pooja at the temple.

Various games like rope tug-of-war, volley ball, throw ball, kabaddi, backward race, pyramid building were organized for people of various age groups. Children to aged ones all enjoyed a lot and actively took part in the games.

Locals also showcased their talents of singing.

Sachin compered the whole event.  Leo Cornelio, businessman, kick started the games.

Shobha Suresh, CMC councellor, Dr Roshan Shetty Ragavendra Kini, Vijay N Suvarna, Udaya Suvarna, Ashok Poojary and office bearers, members of Yuvaka Mandala were present at the event.
