Puttur, Jul 16: A street dog was seen taking away some shape, holding it with its teeth tightly, from the compound of the government hospital here on the evening of Saturday July 15. When locals suspected something was fishy and chased the dog away, it left the thing behind. People who gathered at the spot, on closer inspection, found it to be the lifeless body of an infant. The limbs of the baby had already been torn apart and the bloody torso that was left behind was covered with cloth by hospital staff after they were informed about it.
After the matter was conveyed to the local police, sub-inspector, Omana, along with staff, arrived at the hospital and made inquiries about the incident. During collection of information, it transpired from a doctor that a child had died in the hospital three days back. As per information provided by the staff, the body of the child was buried in a pit dug by the side of the mortuary. The sub-inspector who inspected the spot found that the pit had been opened and the body had been taken away by the dog. Sub-inspector Omana said that postmortem of the body would be conducted and further steps will be taken thereafter.
