Bengaluru, Jul 16 (DHNS): Showers lashed parts of north Karnataka and the coastal region on Saturday.
Moderate to heavy rain continued in Dharwad city for the second consecutive day. Overcast conditions prevailed from early morning and heavy downpour accompanied by gusty winds were witnessed from 1 pm to 1.45 pm. After a brief pause, there was drizzle throughout the day.
The rain has brightened hopes for the farmers as they have started sowing for the kharif crop.
Several roads in Dharwad city were waterlogged, putting vehicle users to inconvenience. Uppinbetageri, Yadwad, Narendra and Garag villages too received rains.
Hubballi city witnessed light rain for some time. Mild rains were witnessed in Belagavi city for about 15 minutes in the evening.
Intermittent rain lashed Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Saturday. In the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Saturday), Dakshina Kannada district received an average of 37 mm rainfall.
This includes 45 mm in Mangaluru taluk and 43.9 mm in Sullia taluk. Udupi district received an average of 65.43 mm rainfall. Two houses at Haladi in Kundapura taluk were damaged as trees fell on them due to the heavy winds.
Moderate rainfall in Kalasa hobli, Chikkamagaluru district, for the last three days has brought relief to the farmers. The water-level in streams and water bodies has increased. Intermittent rain was reported in Kodagu district. The district received 12.11 mm rain between Friday and Saturday.
Moderate to heavy rain lashed several parts of Shivamogga district. Hosanagar, Thirthahalli, Sagar, Shivamogga and Bhadravathi received good spell of rain intermittently.
Showers were witnessed in several parts of Chitradurga district.
There was drizzling in the city since morning and there was heavy rain for 45 minutes after 3.30 pm. There was drizzling till 6 pm.
There were reports of drizzling and light rain in the rural areas of the district also.
