Mangaluru, Jul 14: A delegation of Catholic community in Mangaluru diocese led by M P Noronha, secretary of diocesan pastoral parishad, visited state director general of police Roopak Kumar Dutta and requested him to take measures to ensure peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada district.
The delegation requested to form peace committees in district, taluk and rural levels consisting of community members who have control over the community and able to work with statutory powers.
"The intelligence department should be made active and an undertaking should be taken in writing as per columns between 106 to 110 of criminal procedure code as a precaution from suspects who are likely to spoil peace in the society. If local police officers are appointed in police stations, it will help them maintain good rapport in the area. Therefore, local people should be given priority while filling vacant positions in the police department. Similarly, if strict action is taken against those who send provocative messages ignoring their political connections, it will be conducive for Mangaluru to grow as a smart city," they said.
Police ADGP Alok Mohan, Dakshina Kannada district SP T R Suresh, diocese citizen committee convener Fr J B Crasta, public relations officer Fr William Menezes, Father Muller Medical College director Fr Richard Coelho, Catholic national parishad members Sushil Noronha and Prof Edward D'Silva, Catholic Sabha president Anil Lobo, diocese media advisor E Fernandes, working committee members Hilda Alva, Elizabeth Roche and Shalet Pinto were present.
