Kundapur, Jul 13: Thefts had taken place in several temples in Kundapur in July 2015. The police have not been able to identify the suspects and arrest them even after three years.
While the dissatisfaction among people about the police action has grown, other theft cases have been reported in different temples in Kundapur taluk at night on July 11.
The eyes of thieves were on temples since July 2015. Thieves had entered Saukooru temple twice and decamped with cash and jewellery worth several lacs. It is three years since thefts at Katkere Kalikamba temple but nothing is known about it.
Besides, there were thefts at Kalthodu, Kirimanjeshwar, Vandse Tirumala Laxmi Venkatarama temple, Tenkur Vanadurgaparameshwari temple, Murooru and Malyadi but no arrests have taken place so far.
The theft cases indicate that thieves were targeting temples that are away from residential area. People had urged the police department to nab the suspects and solve the cases. Appeals were sent to DySP twice. However the police department only assures of catching the suspects.
Police have no clue about several thefts cases in the vicinity. The then DySP got transferred and new DySP came. New police officials came. It is unfortunate that none of the theft cases are solved despite modern technology. The menace of thieves starts every year during monsoons. Thefts have taken place in some other temples last year too. However the failure to solve serial thefts of 2015 has caused dissatisfaction among locals.
Thieves have started their trade during this monsoon too. They entered some temples near Siddapur on Monday night. They broke open the main door of Konchadi Durga Parameshwari temple with the help of a cutter and took away gold chain weighing one sovereign, silver mask of the deity and cash from dumb box. They have also broken the main door of Yalanthoor Durgaparameshwari temple and taken away the offerings from the box.
It is reported that masked thieves entered Murooru Durgaparameshwari temple and attempted to steal as per CCTV footage.
Theft cases this year have resumed once again. The police departments and people need to wake up before earlier incidents of thefts are repeated.
