Mangaluru, Jul 11: Marking 100 years of service of Lions Club International, the club also sponsored a new 'Centennial Club', which was inaugurated on Wednesday, June 7. Lions Club Balmatta held the installation ceremony of new office bearers at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatta, on Tuesday, July 4.
A team of 21 members were inducted into Lionism in the centennial year.
The new club was mainly formed by the relentless efforts of the chief extension chairperson, Balmatta Club, Juliet Mascarenhas.
Installation of new office bearers
The club held the installation ceremony of the newly elected team of office bearers for the year 2017-18 with Simon Lobo as the president, Avil D'Souza secretary and Henry D'Souza treasurer.
The chief guest Dr Geeth Prakash held the installation ceremony and inducted ten new members into Lionism – Annie Lobo, Mahendra Sharma, Sandra Crasta, Lisa D’Souza, William Rebello, Srinivas Pai, John Sequeira, Anil Pinto, Errol Pinto and Vincent Pinto.
Club bulletin ‘Kalpavraksha’ was released on occasion.
The newly elected club president Simon Lobo delivered his acceptance speech.
The service activities of the month included donations for house construction and education to three families. The former PSTs and charter members were honoured. The club was felicitated by cabinet secretary Vasanth Kumar Shetty, RC Ln Asha Shetty, second VDG Ronald Gomes, and Kudupi Aravind Shenoy, among others. The speakers made a special mention of the new club, appreciating the efforts put in by Juliet Mascarenhas.
President Noel Pinto called the meeting to order. Jane Lobo read the Lions prayer. Irene Sequeira read the flag salutation followed by the national anthem. Lion Avil D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting was adjourned for fellowship and dinner. Juliet Mascarenhas compered the programme.
Inauguration of Centennial Club
On the centennial jubilee of Lions Club International, Lions Club Balmatta sponsored a new club named as Centennial Club, and a team of 21 members were inducted into Lionism on the occasion at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatta.
The district governor, Arun Shetty, MJF, installed the new office bearers – Dr Sudharam Rai of Global Multi Speciality Hospital Mannagudda as president, Robin Coutinho as secretary and Lancy Menezes as treasurer who took oath at a grand ceremony.
On occasion, the birthday of Manjula Rai, the first lady of the club, was celebrated.
A minutes silence was observed for the departed soul of Sumithra Shenoy, mother of district cabinet secretary Kudupi Aravind Shenoy, whose eyes were donated to Kshema Eye Bank, and would provide sight to two blind people.
The meeting was conducted by the president of the sponsor club Lion Noel Pinto MJF. The charter president of the new club Dr Sudharam Rai took over on acceptance of presidentship of the newborn centennial club.
The new club was felicitated by Dr Ramdas Rai PDG and Ronald Issac Gomes second VDG. Lion Juliet Mascarenhas compered the programme.
A team of 80 delegates who represented district 317D at the international convention held at Mc Cornick Place, Chicago, returned to the city. A warm welcome to the district governor H R Harish and team, regarding the same, will be held at Lions Seva Mandir on July 11 at 3.30 pm.
