Mangaluru Jul 6: President of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Mahila Congress committee, Shalet Pinto on Thursday July 6 announced the names of the vice presidents, general secretaries, treasurer, secretaries and executive committee members of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Mahila Congress committee.

Sharadha Gowda, district in-charge of the Mahila Congress Mysuru division was the chief guest of the event.

Addressing the news conference, Shalet Pinto said, "The main aim behind the appointment of these women is to promote women empowerment prompted by Congress. This is where every woman irrespective of the caste and creed, religion etc is given equal opportunity to work together for the upliftment of the party.”

Sharadha Gowda congratulated all the women who were shortlisted for various designations and said, “Women are powerful and this power is experienced in every house. Local governing bodies consist of 50-55% of women. If Congress comes to power next time, the number of women in the state government will increase.”

“With the reinforcement from CM Siddaramaiah and also other Congress leaders, we have taken this decision of making committees of women to empower other socially deprived women. We will meet them personally and encourage them. We have thought of various activities from the party for the benefit of these socially deprived women,” she said.

“Activities such as ‘Gram Vasthavya’ and ‘Samuhika Bhojana’ (mass meals) will be organized to make them realise that they are not alone,” she said.

“We have also planned for activity called ‘Namolagina Indira’ where we are going to script a play and perform it in every house in villages to educate the women about the various schemes and provisions that the government has provided them with,” she said.

Shalet Pinto also informed about the rally on July 7 at 3 pm in Adyar ground.
