Mangaluru, Jul 6: The Indian Stammering Association (TISA), a non-profit, self-help association for people who stammer in India, will launch its Self-Help Group (SHG) in the city July 23.
The inauguration and the first meeting of the SHG will be held in the library aall of Retreat House, Jeppu, which is adjacent to the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya. The SHG will convene regularly to allow people with stammering (PWS) to share their feelings, practice techniques, and celebrate successes. Mangaluru SHG intends to become a community of stutterers guided by the Self-Help Philosophy of TISA.
Mangaluru is home to many educational institutions and possesses a thriving student community. Considering the severe impact of stammering on young students and graduates, the TISA Mangaluru SHG will conduct workshops and activities to help them gain confidence and better handle their stammering.
The agenda for the first meeting is as mentioned below:
9:00 am - 9:30 am: Refreshments
9:30 am - 10:00 am: Icebreaker and introductions
10:00 am - 10:30 am: Video conference with Dr Sachin, founder of TISA
10:30 am - 10:45 am: Refreshments
10:45 am - 11:15 am: Partner Practice - Voluntary stammering, prolongation and bouncing
11:15 am - 12:15 pm: Expressions - Speak your heart. Use techniques. Share your fears. Lighten your mind
12:15 pm - 1:15 pm: Guest HR Manager will advise and conduct mock interviews
1:15 pm - 2:00 pm: Lunch
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Review, Target setting, and agenda for next meeting. Each pws will promise to do one activity they generally avoid due to stammering. To be reviewed in next meeting
3:00 pm: Closure
