Bantwal, Jul 5: In the bypoll held for the lone vacant seat in Karopady gram panchayat on Sunday July 2, Anwar, who was supported by Congress, came out victorious. He secured 449 votes. The result was announced on Wednesday July 5.
The seat had fallen vacant after the murder of Abdul Jaleel Karopady, who was vice-president of this panchayat. Anwar happens to be Jaleel's brother.
Harish Kodla, who was supported by BJP, could muster only 320 votes. 21 votes were declared to be invalid. A total of 769 votes were polled in this bypoll. 400 out 517 male voters and 390 among 462 female voters had exercised their franchise.
Counting of votes was undertaken by a team led by deputy tahsildar, Parameshwar Naik, under the guidance of tahsildar, Purandar Hegde. Vittal police sub-inspector, Nagaraj, supervised law and order situation.
Polling was conducted for the lone panchayat seat at the polling booth set up at the government school at Mittanadka on July 2. Tight security had been arranged for the election, and 69 percent of voters exercised their franchise. Out of 517 male voters, 400 polled their votes, while 390 out of 462 women voters took part in the election process. Purandar Hegde was the returning officer for this election.
