Udupi, Jul 5: “Nationalized banks should adopt gram panchayat as a pilot project to make cashless transactions possible. Digital banking should be made accessible in all 158 gram panchayats of the district,” said deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis during ‘Disha’ meeting on Tuesday July 4.

Udupi-Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karandlaje chaired a meeting at V S Acharya meeting hall, zilla panchayat, Rajathadri Manipal here.

Speaking on cashless transactions, MP Shobha said, “Digital banking system should be initiated by banks.”

In reply to her, Francis Borgia, lead district chief manager said, “Nearly 41 banks have initiated cashless transaction facility. Cashless transaction leads to two challenges in its implementation. People need to pay monthly rent for machines and merchant discount rate while tax collection. If the online banking is implemented through debit card, commission will be less and if it is by credit card, the commission will be high. Posh machines have been distributed to shops and stores. The Kotathattu gram panchayat and the Belapu have already adopted cashless system. QRC and internet banking are easy to adopt when compared to other systems.”

Nearly 26,367 families need housing sites Udupi- 11,000, Kundapura- 7618 and Karkala 7749.

Basava Vasathi Project
Under Basava Vasathi Yojane, 60% work of identification of beneficiaries will be done by gram panchayat. Nearly 3255 eligible beneficiaries have already been chalked out and 40% of work will be done through Jagruthi committee. Under Ambedkar scheme, all SC/ST families are eligible to take this benefit.

To mark land for Central University
MP Shobha also instructed DC to immediately allocate land for the Central University building. “Five acres of land was sanctioned for Government Tool Room Training Centre at Uppoor. If government land is available, I will talk to the central government to sanction food processing centre in the district,” she said.

“Villagers of Nadpalu, Kunjarugiri, Bola, Pajaka and Thombattu have complained about the poor services of BSNL,” said MP Shobha.

Replying to this, the BSNL official said, “Nearly 118 proposals have been received to install 118 new towers in three taluks. 216 (2G) towers and 164 (3G) towers have been already installed in the district. If 100 additional towers are installed, there will not be poor network.”

Immediate measures to be taken for re-linking of Adhaar card number as 120000 registered names were deleted. She also insisted on tackling the problem of coupon card and ration card distribution.

Posh machine fault
There are 300 fair price shops in the district but only 40 machines have been installed. There is fault in the machine. If a customer buys an item, the posh machine shows that all goods have been purchased while issuing receipt, informed the food department.

"This may lead to misuse of food supply. The fault needs to be corrected and brought under control," said MP Shobha.

Nearly 12 JN-NERM buses out of 30 are running in the district. The remaining 18 are yet to be released from the KSRTC department.

As many as 7900 applications have been received for new BPL card, but 3400 cards are pending verification by the village accountant. There is provision to make correction in BPL cards, but no chance to take print out copy, expressed by food department.

A tender has been called for Single Lighting scheme (Bhagya Jyothi) of Rs 9.41 crore project. The department has received 3042 applications for new connections in the district. A tender has been called for conducting scientific survey of the houses.

ADC G Anuradha was present during the meeting.
