Sullia, Jul 4: A man from Balpa village in the taluk lost his life to swine flu on Sunday July 2. He has been identified as Praveen Gowda (38), son of the late Lokayya Gowda from Alkabe in Balpa village.
Gowda was suffering from unexplained health complications since the last three weeks. He was admitted into a private hospital at Deralakatte. During tests, he was diagnosed there of suffering from swine flue. He was then admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru. Praveen Gowda, who was kept in the intensive care unit of this hospital, lost his life on Sunday without responding go treatment.
Praveen, it is learnt, was operating a cold house cum sweets centre near Panja bus stand in Sullia taluk. He was the only pillar of support for his family comprising his mother, wife, two daughters, and two younger sisters.
District health officer, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, has advised people suffering from throat pain, fever and cold, to immediately visit primary health centres and get themselves examined. He added that district survey officer, Dr Rajesh, will be visiting Panja on July 4 to take stock of the situation.
