Bengaluru, Jul 4: The state government has finally decided to disburse lump sum payment of three lac rupees each to endusulfan victims who have either been totally bedridden and those who have lost their lives. Under the social security scheme of the government, 335 persons who are bedridden, and 3220 families, members of which lost their lives fighting the after affects of insecticide, endosulfan, will get three lac rupees each.
The government has also worked out payment to be made to people who have been either suffering from cancer or become handicapped due to ill affects of endosulfan. A sum of two lac rupees each will be disbursed to such people. The finance department has been suitably instructed in this regard by the government.
This decision was arrived at a meeting chaired by health and family welfare minister, Ramesh Kumar. A committee headed by the chief minister will be monitoring the endosulfan-affected persons. The meeting also decided to hire two nurses at panchayat level under National Health Mission on contract basis. A physiotherapist for each taluk will be recruited in Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on contract basis. Children of endosulfan-affected families will get free education. They will also get scholarship under Indira Education Scheme. Education department has been suitably advised. The education department has been asked to open special schools at panchayat level to help children suffering from hearing and speech problems.
Women and child wllfare department has been directed to open permanent relief centre in the primary health centres at Alankaru village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. Likewise permanent relief centres will be opened in Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts too.
