Puttur, Jul 4: Two persons, who have been accused of snatching away a bag containing three lac rupees from the hands of a businessman at Manjalpadpu in the outskirts of the town stand arrested. The arrests were made by police personnel of the town station here on Monday July 3.
The arrested accused have been identified as Manish (19) from Mura near here, and Vikhyath Devadiga (21), resident of Kemmayi Beernahittilu. Rs 73,000 in cash, and cellphone were confiscated from the possession of arrested persons. On being produced in court on Monday, both were remanded to judicial custody.
Sudarshan Nayak, partner in Mangala Store at Manjalpadpu had, after the closing hours of the shop, placed cash collection for the day in a bag at around 8.10 pm on June 22. He had arrived at the house of another partner, Akshay S K, at Manjalpadpu with the cash bag, in a two-wheeler. It is said that the accused had followed Nayak. As soon as Nayak reached the courtyard of Akshay's house, the two approached him in the guise of seeking directions to an address, turned his attention elsewhere, and snatched away his cash bag before escaping. A case about this incident had been filed in the town police station here.
Police inspector of the station, Mahesh Prasad, and his team, who took up investigation, succeeded in taking the accused into custody on Monday morning from near Kemmayi. Police sub-inspector, Omana, crime sub-inspector, Venkatesh, and other personnel participated in the operation.
