Riyadh, Jul 3: Indian Social Forum has extended a helping hand to an Indian couple who was in dire straits due to cheating by a recruiting agent in India and harassment from their sponsor in the city.
Mesmerized with tall promises from a recruiting agent, Chand Pasha and his wife Aminabi of Bengaluru origin had come here three months ago with dreams that they will come out of their poverty. Their sponsor in Riyadh was to employ Chand Pasha as the driver for his private vehicle and Aminabi as the domestic help in his house. Unfortunately the sponsor refused to employ the couple saying that he does not need workers for the time being. The sponsor neither got their passport stamped for residence card (Iqama) nor was their passport returned to them. Besides, the sponsor demanded eighteen thousand Saudi Rials for their release.
The couple who was stunned, contacted the local agent who instead of responding to their plight fled to his hometown. The couple who did not know anybody and had nothing to eat during the month of Ramadan was begging in the hot sun and spending their days in a miserable condition.
The Indian Social Forum Riyadh unit which understood their pitiable condition immediately formed a team under the leadership of Ismael Mangalpete, Navin Kundapur and Shafi Vamanjoor, met the couple in person and understood the gravity of the situation. They provided temporary accommodation for the couple and food and assured that their problem will be solved soon.
They met the Indian embassy and got important travel documents prepared for the couple. As there was a problem in the document of Chand Pasha, they collected an amount equivalent to Indian Rs thirty thousand to send only Aminabi with the help of the members of Indian Social forum and local donor Mushtak Udupi.
Finally Aminabi was sent back on June 29 via Riyadh International airport. Aminabi was cordially welcomed at Bengaluru International airport by activists of Social Democratic Party of India.
Similarly Indian Social Forum is preparing to send Chand Pasha also back to India. The couple has expressed their tearful gratitude to the forum.
