Udupi, Jul 3: Melwyn Rego, has assumed charge as managing director and chief executive officer of Syndicate Bank on July 1. Prior to joining the bank, Melwyn Rego was MD and CEO of Bank of India.
He has also held the position of deputy managing director, IDBI Bank Ltd. He is a career banker and has been with IDBI Bank Ltd since 1984. Rego was deputed to IDBI Homefinance Ltd as managing director and CEO in September 2003 after IDBI took over Tata Homefinance Ltd. He returned to IDBI in January 2008 and took over as head- International Banking Division to spearhead IDBI Bank's overseas initiatives. Rego has extensive international experience and was a rank holder at a programme on International Capital Markets at Oxford University, UK. He has also participated in several seminars including those organized by Entrepreneurship Development Institute / World Bank at Washington.
He is an MBA rank holder in finance from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune. Rego has held assignments in the areas of Corporate Banking, Rehabilitation Finance, Treasury, International and Domestic Resources, Infrastructure Corporate Group, Project Appraisal Department, Sourcing, Syndication and Advisory Department,
Priority Sector and Retail Banking Group in various capacities. He has played key role in tapping diverse International Markets for raising foreign currency resources for IDBI.
Rego is a keen sportsman and has a passion for music and dramatics.
