Bengaluru: Traffic cop suspended for hitting senior citizen with helmet

Bengaluru, Jul 3 (DHNS): A traffic police head constable has been suspended for assaulting a senior citizen over a petty issue in Vijayanagar on Sunday.

Based on a complaint, DCP (Traffic-West) Shobha Rani suspended head constable Jayaram of Vijayanagar station and ordered a departmental enquiry. Jayaram is accused of assaulting Ramakrishna (65), a resident of Nagarabhavi, with his helmet over a petty issue.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm near Vijayanagar water tank. Jayaram was riding his bike to the police station, while Ramakrishna was following the bike in his car to go to Vijayanagar market.

Victim Ramakrishna

“Jayaram stopped the bike at the junction as the red light was on, while Ramakrishna honked four times,” said a senior police officer. Jayaram directed Ramakrishna to wait till the signal was clear. But Ramakrishna directed Jayaram to move away as he wanted to take a right turn, but Jayaram insisted Ramakrishna has to wait.

“Ramakrishna lost his cool, got off the car and picked an argument with Jayaram. The situation worsened as Jayaram too lost his cool. In a fit of anger, he hit Ramakrishna with his helmet. Ramakrishna fell and sustained head injuries,” added the officer.

He was taken to a nearby hospital. Some road users staged a flash protest, seeking action against Jayaram for assaulting a senior citizen. The DCP reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The protest was withdrawn following an assurance that action would be taken against Jayaram.

Please keep aside arguments on senior citizen/ police officer, anger aside and think how many times we have encountered block on a free left or free right. Haven't you lost your cool. May be you did not have the confidence to get down and fight back on the injustice. The old man/ senior citizen did have the guts to say wrong is wrong! Why should he have waited unnecessarily when he had the right of way? Just that the person who did wrong happened to be in a person of power (policeman) , he cant hit back a person who showed him his mistake.

Looking at his picture he doesn't look like so innocent, but angry old man. If that was not a policeman and any poor man this fellow would have hit him worse than what Inspector Jayaram did. Just because he is 65 years ole we can't take hiw side and ask to punish dutiful Police officer. This man has no right to ask anyone to break law. There are many arrogant old people in Bangalore, who wants to quarrel for silly reason specially on roads when there is traffic jam

First of all how much delay would have Ramakrishna faced if he has to wait until the signal was to go green ? And what was the need of the hour to honk for Ramakrishna ? Personally, I feel that the constable has done nothing wrong.
Secondly, no driver has the right to get down from his vehicle while being on a traffic signal. Our cops try to follow the rules & regulations, which some of the individual citizens are not even wanting to follow the traffic rules.
India has to go a long way to respect traffic rule and regulations. We are even worst than Sri Lanka. One has to go to Sri Lanka and see how the local citizen respect the laws of the land. Shame on Ramakrishna and being a senior citizen, he is one who has to be punished and not the cop.

I dont understand obeying traffic rules is become wrong in the part of Mr.Jayaram.
Whatever may be senior citizen ramakrishna should not teach a lesson to a person who already in it. Here it looks like ramakrishna his taking advantage as he his senior citizen. Should give less penalty charges of Rs.200/- for jayaram and restore his duties as early as possible by giving warning.
It's nothing but a fit of rage..01.30 shaitan is active.

First of all contribute something for nation's interest and latter claim Rs.15 lakhs.
Did you voted for bjp..how you claim it..??
85% people declined to take over 15 lakhs and pledged that amount utilised for nation's development which is emptied by earlier govt.

Devkumar, I agree with your first comment, but saying 85 % people decline to take 15 lacks is only in your dream. Leave 15 lacks even if there is an announcement every one will get 15 rupees, go to your nearest post office or any other place with your aadhar card there will be a big Que including you. If there were so generous people in India our country would have become free of beggars.

The question here is who told him to hit and is this the way to handle this case like by assualting the senior citizen? He could have booked the case against Ramakrishna (Sr. citizen). The point is here that Sr. citizen wanted to take right turn to go to his destination where traffic (red light) is not applicable as he can go without any obstruction. But PC has blocked his way for further movement he got off from his car. Atleast the police should have shown a little bit courtesy by moving his bike as he wanted to go to left side of the circle. This is some sort of confusion. In this case PC shown his adament nature he being a cop. Sometimes here also such cases happen in some junctions. But not police people. But Others.

No need to show your guts in Dubai or any where in Gulf Countries for that matter.... They never touch any people in the Street.... When they stop you...you just need to give your original License and Car Registration Card... That's it....rest everything will be done nicely....and you receive your traffic fine in your file number or License number....and you are bound to pay when you go for renewal of your car registration every year.... and at they end he would say "thank you" too... That's why say.... In India...when these traffic hawaldar hits you....return it twice immediately
