Udupi: Two facing naxalism charges acquitted by court

Udupi, Jul 2: Two persons who were facing many charges relating to naxalism activities including bomb blast were acquitted by Udupi district and sessions court on Saturday, July 1.

Nandakumar and Devendra are the persons who have come out clean in the cases they were charged with. They were among the 10 who faced same charges.

As per details, Nandakumar and Devendra were arrested for alleged offenses of illegal arms possession, collection of ammunition, spreading of naxalism literature and engaging in illegal activities to act against the government. It was also alleged that the duo planted and exploded a bomb in Mutlupadi area and fired the gun shots on the group of 13 police personnel. All these police personnel were injured because of the assault. After the assault, the alleged naxalites fled to the jungle.

In addition to the above charges Nandakumar faced 16 cases while Devendra faced 25 cases including 8 in Udupi district. Boja Shetty murder case is one among them for which both were charged. Both of them were arrested in 2009 and were housed in Mysuru jail since then.

The persons facing the naxalism charges were B J Krishnamurthy, Suresh alias Mahesh, Devendra alias Vishnu, Vikram Gowda, Nilaguli Padmanatha, N Nandakumar, Prabha alias Hosagadde Prabha, Vasantha alias Ananda, Savithri alias Usha, and Sundari alias Geetha.

Nandakumar now remains only with 1 case among the 8 he was facing in Udupi district.
