Udupi, Jul 2: Information that a prominent family has been converted into another religion, has created confusion among people after it has reached many people through social media.
First, an advertisement appeared in an evening newspaper which said that husband, wife and two children living in Mallar Kombugudde near Kaup changed their religion and hence adopted new names. This family belonged to a strong community of the area.
After this news gathered curiosity, police and revenue department officials checked the address to know whether such people lived in the address mentioned in the advertisement. But they found out that no such family lived there. In fact the address belonged to another community.
The leaders from the community, into which the family was allegedly converted, also sensed trouble. They did not want any communal trouble in the area. So they also checked about the address and found out that no such family lived there. Now they have asked the media to investigate. They will also approach top police officials so that issue does not become a trouble for both communities.
Meanwhile some people say that a family from Udupi indeed got converted into another religion and changed their names. But to conceal their real identity and address from the public, they advertised using an address from Mallar Kombugudde. They used the services of an advocate from Mangaluru for this purpose. The intention was to fulfill the legal requirement as the name change has taken place.
But this episode has created confusion in the minds of people in the district especially that of Kaup area.
