Bagalkot, Jun 30: Shivanagowda Rudragowda Patil (S R Patil), former minister, MLC and veteran Congress leader, took over charge as new working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Thursday June 29.
The charge was symbolically handed over to the newly appointed working president by KPCC president, Dr G Parameshwara, chief minister, Siddaramaiah, and state in-charge of Congress affairs, K C Venugopal, who jointly handed over the party flag to Pail at a function held on Thursday, June 29 at Kudalasangama in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Siddaramaiah said that he wanted to waive farm loans of all the agriculturists. He claimed that he had written to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to waive loans outstanding in nationalised banks, duly telling him that the state was prepared to waive loans in cooperative societies. "We have waived farm loans now. I hope Modi too will take measures to waive remaining farm loans," he added.
Venugopal noted that the state Congress government has waived loans of farmers because of the situation they are facing. He noted that a union minister had recently said that waiver of agricultural loans has become a fashion. "Yeddyurappa was saying that he was fighting for loan waiver. Is he still in BJP? If so, let him get loans of farmers in nationalized banks waived," he said.
He claimed that Karnataka is ahead of other states n account of its efficient functioning, explaining that Siddaramaiah had waived farmers loans within two days since Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi gave a call to vibe to the problems of farmers. "Siddaramaiah has waived farm loans up to Rs 50,000. It is the turn of Yeddyurappa, who speaks a lot about farmers, to get loans of other agriculturists waived through the central gobernment," he added.
