Vijayapura, Jun 29: The father and brother of a youth were tied to a tree and thrashed by the relatives of a Muslim girl, with whom he had eloped.
The incident took place at Halagundakanala village near here on Sunday, June 25. The incident only came to light after three days delay.
The victim family belongs to Dalit community.
Ningappa, the elder son of Mareppa Harijan, eloped with a girl from the same village belonging to Muslim community. The girl’s father, his brother and five others came in search of Mareppa and tied him to a tree. Then they beat him mercilessly holding him responsible for the elopement.
Ramesh, younger son of Mareppa, came to his father’s rescue. He too was tied to the other side of the same tree and thrashed very badly by the attackers.
Mareppa has been admitted to a hospital as he sustained head injuries.
