Bengaluru, Jun 29: It is gathered that in-charge of state Congress affairs, K C Venugopal, has advised women aspirants seeking party tickets relating to next assembly election to reside with widows before their names could be considered. This strategy is believed to have been conceived to counter the tactics owned by state BJP leaders including party state president, B S Yeddyurappa, of visiting Dalit families and having food at their homes.
Venugopal, reports say, has thought of this plan to attract votes of women by earning their sympathy. Women voters comprise a large chunk of total voters and hence their goodwill can go a long way in leading the party to rise to power again in the state, he believes.
It is said that office bearers of the women's wing of the party, who had met Venugopal, had placed with him demand for a lion's share for women when allotting party tickets towards giving better representation for women. The leader, who put forth certain suggestions to keep the women's wing active and vibrant, told them that the party can easily get 20 more seats in the election if women activists can personally contact women in each booth and convince 50 female voters from each booth to vote for Congress. He also told the activists to stay with widows and helpless women, hold consultations with them, understand their problems, and see that schemes of the government formulated for their benefit reach them.
