Mangaluru, Jun 27: Two incidents of immoral rowdism took place on Monday, June 26 in city.

A 19-year old youth who had gone for shopping at a mall here was assaulted by a group of youths on Monday June 26 evening.

Manoj (19), an engineering student of Suratkal was beaten up by a group on allegations that he had 'misbehaved' with a girl from another community. Sources said that Manoj's hand accidentally touched the girl, following which the girl took him to task. The group of people soon gathered and assaulted Manoj, it is said.

Police rushed to the spot and five youths were taken into custody based on CCTV footage. Manoj has been shifted to a private hospital.

In a separate incident, a lecturer was allegedly abused by four men after he was found with a lady lecturer at Car Street on Monday June 25. It is said that the two lecturers were buying books in one of the stores located at Car Street. They then went to a nearby fastfood stall. Meanwhile, four men approached towards the lecturer and allegedly abused him. They then summoned the lady lecturer’s father and sent her home.

Our city is in the chase to become a smart city but when will the people residing there become smart.
Probably the ones left there arent the smart ones. Sad to see our hometown turn into a mess.
Serious action needs to be taken soon before things start to go totally out of hand.
Power and money has made fools into goons and harass ordinary citizens.

In the first incident, note -"the girl took him to task". Did she have a hand in getting the person thrashed. Were the goons her friends ? If so, police should take her to task as well. In the second incident, was the lady lecturer with the other person voluntarily. If so, did she publicly object the people who were abusing the other lecturer. In either case, rowdyism is uncalled for and police should teach them a good lesson.

Police will do nothing. The reason such acts keep on recurring because of the inability of police to clamp down on these goons. How many times I have read reports where these goons handover the legally adult couple to police and our ''good for nothing'' police call upon the parents of the couple and send them home with a warning and let the goons go free.

It's the police`s duty to safeguard the rights of people. But this police restrict the individual's rights in favour of appeasing the goons.

Easy to blame police..

One must k now what is going on in their minds too.. how many calls they will receive upon arrest? How many threats? How many stones pesters? Police getting into national headline for arresting ‘young juvenile’ shop goers on false charges of immoral policing.?? Just samples..

I too want police to be strict.. but yes, these days some people often takes law on to their hands because they think they are far more powerful.. and they can always blame police for being communal also.

You have to decide whose side you are on.

I blame the police because I expect them to maintain a standard of policing. I have clearly mentioned why I blame the police. They are incapable of protecting the rights of the citizens. I have read some article where they have called upon the parents of adults. WTF???

Remember once a college tour was cancelled because the Moral police had a problem with girls and boys going together for an educational tour. Police failed to do their job. Slowly our rights as individuals are eroded one by one. Days are not far when we turn into UP or Bihar.

They should be educated about what is 'personal freedom'.
They should not stand with the people who act against people who eat what they want, who enjoy with people whom they want, who roam around with people whom they like. They also should be made aware that consensual sex in private, is not still illegal in India.
