Mangaluru, Jun 27: Two youngsters from Bengaluru who had come to city had a tough time when they visited Suratkal beach on Monday, June 26. Their selfie craze put them in trouble and ultimately if one could reach the shore by swimming, another one had to be saved by trained swimmers.

A group of seven youngsters from K R Pura Bengaluru were visiting Dakshina Kannada district. They came to the beach near NITK Suratkal on the morning of Monday June 26. Two of them went to a rock in the sea and started clicking photos in their mobile phones. At that time, heavy tides started appearing due to volatile weather. Both the youngsters who sensed danger started panicking.

One among them jumped into sea and swam to the shore when tides subsided. But the other could not do so. He kept on shouting for help. No one other than these youngsters was at the beach at that time.

Luckily seven swimmers from Home Guard department, who had come to Sasihitlu the previous day for rescue operation, happened to pass by at the beach. They heard the cry from the youngsters for help and helped the youth to reach the shore with the help of a rope.

Mangaluru Tahasildar Mahadevappa visited the place later and appreciated the Home Guard swimmers for help rendered.

There are warning bards which tell the visitors not to venture into sea when weather is bad. But many visitors do not read them and put themselves into danger.
