Puttur: Big crater on Bengaluru highway, traffic to be affected

Daijiworld Media Network- Puttur (RJP)

Puttur, Jun 27: A big crater that has developed on Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway in between Gundya and Addahole near Uppinangadi may soon affect the vehicular movement on the road.

The crater was created because of collapse of soil from the left hand side of the road. If more soil collapses, the traffic may be completely affected. As this has happened on a small bridge, the situation is very dangerous. Even allowing vehicles moving from other side also can damage the road further.

Movement of heavy vehicles should be stopped immediately if the road has to be saved. No official statement has come from administration regarding this.

Only Uppinangadi police, who visited the place, have been managing the situation with instructions to drivers as to how to move on the particular stretch. This measure is not expected to save the road for long with more rains expected.

A big crack was seen last year and there were plans to build a revetment and do the concrete work on the stretch. Though stones were brought for the purpose, the work was not carried out this year as planned.

Concerned authority deserve punishment! Few days jail will not be harsh considering the inconvenience to general public. They are not spending money from their pocket, may be making some from common man's tax!

Irresponsible contractors. Simply for eye wash do the job. Don' t send them to Singapore for study. And waste money. Stop salary and labour charges to workers then automatically they will come in line..Road Experts are not up to the standard. By influence they get the job.

This is very common now a days with construction industry.
Reason is, the contract is awarded to influential and famous companies, but the execution is done through third grade sub-contractors. The result is:
    No quality control
Public nuisance during construction time because they do not have infrastructure to provide alternative arrangements during construction
All debris thrown around during and after construction with no responsibility of clean up
    Risk to public life.

In the end, whole story gets covered up. Even the express way constructed 20 years back between Mumbai and Pune had cracks in Lonavla/ Kandala area. The main contractor was L&T. Subject never got highlighted and quietly repaired.

This is the state of affairs with Govt projects.
