Udupi: High court stays movement of 55 government buses in district

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 25: Upholding the plea made by the district private bus owners association, the state high court has issued orders staying operation of 55 government buses in the district. The association is arguing that the buses, which include city buses under Jawarhal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) were being run by state owned Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) illegally.

President of the association, Kuilady Suresh Nayak, stated that his association had complained to the high court about illegal operation of JNNURM buses by KSRTC on long routes like Karkala, Kundapur and Bhatkal and several rural places. He said that the high court has issued stay order against the operation of buses for which newly route permits have been issued.

District in-charge minister, Pramod Maharaj, said that government buses were being introduced more and more in the district for serving the people better as many of the routes were to places that did not have bus connectivity so far. He said he is hurt at the stay granted against these buses and promised to hold discussions with transport minister, senior officials and legal experts to find a solution to the problem soon and to ensure that common people do not suffer on account of this development.

The court has stayed operation of 45 JNNURM and ten other buses.

I am happy with High Court decision. This is only one sector in Udupi-DK sector doing good. Locals getting job. Money is not flowing out of twin district (specially Tulunadu, where all money being spent on Bangalore- Mysore development). As long as we are in Karnataka, I am happy about this decision.

Second who talk so ill about pvt buses, let them go and see rural areas in Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka, where bus conductors and drivers are so horrible and very rude, where they dont even help passengers/ women when they climb with luggage. They don't even help when stop arrives when you are unaware of palces. Buses are not kept clean, moreover, time keeping is really worst.

Ok now you guys criticize, you are just like frogs in well, later you will realize when you loose the comfortability, leisure, cleanliness, timeliness of our pvt buses and then enjoy yourself with North-Karnataka and upghats gowda conductors and drivers. People here think that our drivers are rash drivers, just see BMTC bus drivers third class rash driving even they do.

I really dont understand how you guys can think of closing entire pvt sector.

This shows how money power works against people power. If this had happened any other districts except Udupi & D.K., all the unions would have called strike in the state by now, but unfortunately our district unions are not interested in holding the priority of the common man on top. Really sad.

Its not controlled by Central or Federal Govt and is purely a matter of State govt. Our siddu should wake up and understand who is getting benefited and who is loosing. He is only thinking about himself and is least bothered about any other common man.

It looks that the Judge is having some grudge against the general public who enjoyed the hassle free travel on these client friendly buses. Shall we debar the judge using his private vehicle on the road? Then surely he/she will remove the foolish, heartless stay order

The service offered by these low bed JNNURM buses is superb. Buses are comfortable. Public is fed-up with private buses and is with the Government. Simply nationalise all private route and stop this menace once and for all. If there is doubt let the government take public opinion and act accordingly.

This is nothing but top most joke of the century.
How can government run public transport treated as illegal.
The private bus lobby is arm twisting judiciary.
This is a great loss to the general public.
These buses added beauty to city.
These buses were without footboard and very convenient for senior citizens.
Promod Madhvaraj should resign if he can not restore these wonderful buses.
PIL should be submitted challenging this decision

Government can negotiate with private bus owners. If they are not cooperating, then for the benefits of public, government can nationalize certain routes.

the decision of the court is not in the interest of common people of the district. the defense lawyer might not prepared well to argue and present the case of govt, in the high court. however the case will continue since court only issued stay order. on other hand govt. of Karnataka should introduce more buses in more and more routes and decrease the private bus routes.

We are happy with the Government run buses. They are punctual and the seating arrangement is spacious. There are no hinderence when boarding or alighting and the staff is courteous.

Increase their services and the frequency too. Passengers opinion will endorse what I am saying.
