Ballari, Jun 23: District BJP ST Morcha vice-president, Bandi Ramesh, was murdered in broad daylight by a gang of seven to eight assailants. The leader was hacked to death by the gang which attacked him at a Dhaba at Bandihatti in the city on Thursday June 22 afternoon.
Ramesh was having lunch at the said Dhaba along with some of his friends when the gang arrived in two vehicles. As they hit Ramesh's head repeatedly with a machete, Ramesh died on the spot. The gang disappeared after committing the murder.
Ramesh, who was in jail relating to a case of murder attempt, had secured bail from high court and released a few days back.
Inspector general of police, S Murugan, superintendent of police, R Chetan, deputy superintendent of police, Suresh, inspector of rural station here, Prasad Gokhale, police sub-inspector, Vasant Kumar and others visited the spot and collected details. A case was registered in the rural police station here about this murder. The police have spread out a net to nab the culprits.
Bandi Ramesh was considered to be a very close associate of MP, Sriramulu, and former MLA, G Somashekhara Reddy. He had hogged limelight once in the past by pouring milk on the cut out of Sriramulu in a circle here. He was named as accused in 2007 Raju murder case in Indiranagara, Gopal murder which happened at Surabhi circle in the city in 2010, and 2014 murder of Urukunda at the railway station. It is said that he was able to get acquitted in all these cases.
Sources say that Ramesh also faced a murder case in D Heerala polcie station in Andhra Pradesh. His name was heard in connection with seven cases of murder attempt in the past.
