Belagavi, Jun 22: Two under-trial prisoners lodged in the sub-jail at Ramdurg town in the district succeeded in fleeing in the wee hours on Wednesday June 21. They secured freedom by breaking open the window rods of the toilet.
Santosh Shivanna Nandihal (32), resident of Honnalli in Vijayapura taluk and currently residing in Jayanagar third cross at Dharwad, as well as Suresh Sharanappa Chalawadi from Batakurki village in Ramdurg taluk in the district were the two who became free birds.
Santosh, who is facing the allegation of committing theft in a house, has been in the sub-jail at Ramdurg here since March this year. Suresh was brought and kept in the prison relating to theft of motor bike during the first week of this month. Both the prisoners came together late night on Tuesday after all the other prisoners went to sleep, before cutting open the rods of the toilet window and jumping out from the gap.
It is gathered that Santosh, who had been jailed for seven years in a theft case in the past, had not stopped his old habit even after completing the sentence. After stealing things at Saudatti and Bailahongala taluks, he continued at Ramdurg when he was caught. On Wednesday he was to be produced at the court for hearing. Instead, he fled in a filmy fashion along with another prisoner, Suresh.
