It has since been found that the girl is the daughter of Ningajja and Pakeeravva couple from north Karnataka who have come here searching for work, and living in tents pitched near the field belonging to a temple here.

Some social workers had noticed this girl aimlessly moving around streets since about a month. They had brought this matter to the attention of block education officer. As the area where the girl lives is covered by Nellikatte government school, the officer contacted the authorities at the school and questioned them.

As per law, parents have to compulsorily send their children of certain age groups to to schools, and not allow them to move around aimlessly.
