Mangaluru, Jun 18: A group of 10 persons on Sunday June 18 tried to attack a financier and HJV leader identified as Harish at Kuthar, following which a tense atmosphere prevailed at the spot.
On Sunday evening, Harish was rushing his neighbour, an elderly lady, to hospital after a coconut fell on her and caused head injuries. While he was taking a turn near the hospital, an auto rickshaw driver approaching from the opposite side cautioned him to drive properly and allegedly abused him. Harish reportedly shouted at him, noted down the auto rickshaw's registration number, and then proceeded to admit the lady to the hospital.
When he was about to leave the hospital half an hour later, around 10 persons including the auto driver waylaid his car near the gate. Just as Harish was about to get out of the car, the group came forward to attack him.
At that moment, a person named Naseer, who was recently released from jail, and his associates who were nearby intervened and tried to pacify auto driver and his group.
As news spread that Harish happens to be a leader of a pro-Hindu outfit, tension prevailed at the spot.
The Ullal police have registered a case against two persons.
DCP Shantaraju, ACP Shruthi, Ullal inspector Gopikrishna and other police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
A KSRP squad has also been deployed in the area to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
