Bengaluru, Jun 18: A woman has been booked on the charge of slapping a police constable while he was on duty.
Sarika (22), a resident of Fraser Town, is the accused. She is a commerce graduate.
According to police, the incident took place on June 12 at around 2.40 pm. Venkatesh, a constable from KG Halli police station, was deputed for security on Queen’s Road as Vice President of India Hamid Ansari and Congress party vice-president Rahul Gandhi were visiting the city on that day.
The area was made zero- traffic zone, paving way for the movement of the VVIP convoy. At that time Sarika, who was riding the two-wheeler, was stopped by the police. But she did not stop and drove along with the VVIP convoy.
When Venkatesh tried to stop her, Sarika drove over the pavement and rammed her vehicle into a barricade. When Venkatesh was explaining to her that what she did was wrong, Sarika allegedly abused and slapped the constable.
High Grounds police have registered an FIR, booked Sarika for assaulting and deterring public servant from discharging his duty.
The police are yet to arrest Sarika. It is not known why there is a delay in arresting her.
