Bengaluru, Jun 17 (DHNS): Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar on Friday welcomed the state government’s move to fix rates for different types of treatments and bed charges in private hospitals and nursing homes.
The Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 tabled in the Assembly provides for imposing a penalty up to Rs 5 lakh and imprisonment up to three years if hospitals collect more charges than that fixed by the state government.
“There are certain provisions in the bill which could have been avoided. I will raise them when the bill comes up for discussion in the Assembly. But it is essential that there should be some control over private hospitals,” the former chief minister said.
