Mangaluru, Jun 13: The New Mangalore Port Trust celebrated World Environment Day on Tuesday, June 13.
Dr Sarathi Manjappa, director of Sahyadri college of Engineering, Adyar, a well-known environmental expert, was the chief guest of the function. He delivered a lecture on sustainable development, rainwater harvesting, renewable resources, and its advantages to the society.
Deputy chairman Suresh P Shirwadkar, was guest of honour. In his speech he informed the gathering that all the employees should really mean the World Environment Day and contribute to the protection of Environment.
Chairman P C Parida, presided over the function. While addressing the gathering he informed that the port was striving hard to implement green initiatives. "The port has commissioned a 4.5 MW solar power plant. The port will go for green initiatives in a bigger way," he added.
Chief mechanical engineer Sathish Honnakatte welcomed the gathering. Chief engineer (civil)i/c A V Harinath, introduced the chief guest by reading his bio-data. Superintending engineer (civil) Rajappa, extended the vote of thanks. Assistant executive engineer (civil) Bhagyalaxmi, conducted the programme as the master of ceremony.
